As you may know, the past few years have presented challenges for Berrett-Koehler. During the pandemic, our sales declined, costs rose, and supply chain disruptions, along with an office lease, consumed valuable resources. This situation isn't unique to us; many independent publishing companies have faced similar struggles. Last summer, Berrett-Koehler hit a financial low point.
But Berrett-Koehler is a survivor and a fighter. Our founder, Steve Piersanti, reminds us that we have weathered many tough situations in our 32-year history. Determined to restore the company’s health, our staff and board launched a focused turnaround initiative, to which I was privileged to contribute. In January 2024, I stepped into the CEO & Publisher role to lead our team through the next chapter. I accepted this challenge because I love Berrett-Koehler and I have personally experienced and benefited from the transformative power of the Berrett-Koehler way.
Fast forward to today, Berrett-Koehler is in a much stronger position—we’ve made some tough choices and put in a lot of hard work. But we are not completely out of the woods yet and this is where you can help! We are introducing a new membership program to enhance our ability to publish books that stimulate positive individual, organizational, and societal change. With your help we want to continue discovering and amplifying diverse voices for creating a world that works for all.
